The active ingredient in tanning bed bulbs is the % of UVB and a typical 20 minute maximum session bulb has a 5% UVB with the most common brand names being Wolff Velocity, Wolf Belarium S, Real Sun, and Light Sources Midday Sun among many.  This is a GREAT bulb for the home because of it's "all-around" combination of reddening and bronzing effects and it's not too hot for friends or family who do not tan often.  Keep in mind that regardless of the name on the side of the bulb you can compare bulbs by looking for the % of UVB and then you will know the tanning characteristics of that particular bulb.  The higher the UVB, like 7.5% and 8.5% bulbs, the more red your skin will become before turning brown.  The lower the UVB %, like the 1.8% reflector bulbs, are basically "bronzing bulbs" which interact with melanin in your dead layer of skin to turn it bronze in color, without too much reddening.
